Membership Committee:

September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows (PT) is at a turning point: we will celebrate our 21st anniversary on February 14, 2023 and are still a vibrant, respected organization that is active on several issues stemming from that fateful day in 2001. We hope that PT will be around for another 21 years, and the influx of new members - several of whom are children of 9/11 now in their 20s and 30s – adds to our optimism.

The Membership Committee is interested in learning how members view what we are working on as an organization and individually. That is why we will be contacting all members by email, phone or letter in the near future. Then, after the New Year, we plan on sending a survey to members to assess your views about PT, including what you would like to see that is not happening.

The committee is chaired by Phyllis Rodriguez phyllis@peacefultomorrows.org,  and is supported by Katharina Katharina@peacefultomorrows.org and Liz elizabeth@peacefultomorrows.org.
Feel free to contact one or all of us with questions and/or if you'd like to join the committee.

Rule of Law Committee:

The committee is focused on two significant issues:

  • We continue to seek final resolution of the 9/11 case before the Military Commissions at Guantanamo through negotiated plea agreements. As we learn more about what this will entail in discussions with the prosecuting and defense attorneys, we are working to plan PT's public response and our members are considering how they may want to participate in future sentencing hearings.
  • President Biden’s administration recently announced their policy on the use of lethal force outside recognized armed conflict, as notified to Congress and reported in the New York Times. PT is deeply concerned that this policy perpetuates long-standing failures to be transparent about practices that cause significant civilian casualties.

Afghanistan Committee:

Peaceful Tomorrows' Afghanistan committee continues to monitor the lawsuit by some 9/11 families that is holding $3.5 Billion of the Afghan people's money and to advocate for the full return of the Afghan central bank funds to benefit the people of Afghanistan. The committee is also planning for a webinar on Afghanistan in early 2023 and continues to seek ways PT will be able to assist Afghan civilians inside and outside the country.
